Epic Thank You

Ready2Rage started out in late September with one goal: scour the earth for the most bangin' music and deliver it in a simple manner to devoted ragers across college campuses and beyond.  86 posts, 97 days, 3 authors later and on the cusp of a new year we have hit 10,000 pageviews.  Awesome.  It's hard to say where exactly R2R is heading but one thing is for sure, if you guys keep this up, expansion is imminent.   Thank you all, and keep on raging.  Keep spreadin' the word about R2R, and before I hit you all with our MASSIVE end of the year post tomorrow, here are a few tracks that just barely got cut from the R2R Top 10 of 2010...

Doctor P - Big Boss
The biggest track from one of the biggest up and coming stars of dubstep.  Seeing this live absolutely blew my mind.  In the end it was tough to cut the Doctor from the Top 10 list, but some people just deserved it more.

Boys Noize & Erol Alkan - Avalanche (Original Mix)
I have said it countless times, this song is epic and all of the Boys Noize/Erol Alkan collaborative releases are great, but they just weren't big enough to crack the Top 10.  Works for me though.

Pretty Lights - Hot Like Dimes
Huge year for Pretty Lights, 3 great EPs and that unreleased business "Defocused on the Bright Diamonds".  Arguably best live show out there as well.  It was impossible to include them in the Top 10 because no one song specifically rages hard enough to be excluded from the others.  "Hot Like Dimes" is the best I could do.

Indie Dance/Nu Disco

I was exploring Beatport the other day and saw on the Top 100 that Martin Solveig's "Hello" as well as A-trak's "Indestructable" remix (2 seriously awesome favorites of mine) were classified under the "Indie Dance/Nu Disco" genre.  I checked out the charts for the genre and there are a few other sweet songs on there.  I still don't fully understand what this genre means, but it pumps out some pretty awesome, danceable songs.  Here are 2 of the best.

Mariam, Amadou - Sabali (Vitalic Remix)
If you own Nas & Damian Marley's "Distant Relatives" album, you'll recognize the sample.  Solid, upbeat jam with some crazy jungle-y effects in the background.  This one is super sweet.

Valerna - I Wish I Had Dog Feet
This one has a real serious electro feel to it.  Has some really trippy breakdowns.

New Pretty Lights album

""
Our friends over at PB&J threw a link up to their site this morning saying they had an exclusive new Pretty Lights album completely out of nowhere!  Of course, I downloaded the album and it's pretty legit.  It seems like the album itself, however, is just a compilation of unreleased material from shows and Derek Vincent Smith's fucking about in the beat laboratory (some tracks are live, some aren't, one song is 1:22 and another one is 15 minutes long).  Of course, the fact that it isn't new material doesn't take away from the fact that it is some great unreleased stuff that Pretty Lights never officially put on an EP or full length album.  The album, "Defocused on the Bright Diamonds", is solid all around, so heres the link for the entire album.  I have also included the links for a few of my favorite songs if you don't want to bother downloading all 24 tracks, enjoy.

1. Retaliation

5. Can't Stop Me Now Remix

9. Regulators

12. Textured Heart

16. Bump N Hustle

19. Sonic Bloom

24. Feels So Good

Not In Our House

Let's send Mark Sanchez home crying tonight.  The game starts at 1:30 and runs til 4:30 in the morn over here in lovely old England so I got the proper sleep (woke up at 7:00pm) and some new jams to get me in the right mindset before the game.  I feel bad for everyone on my floor who is trying to get a full nights sleep tonight.  Here are a few tasty snacks (not the Rex Ryan kind) to chew on before the game...

Potomac Boys Club - Lights! (Potomac Boys Rework) (Ellie, Waka, Wale)
Everybody and their grandma is talking about this jam, and for good reason.  Brenton Duvall, of Gucci Mane Remix fame is a member of these Potomac Boys, a couple of college bros who make dank music.  This song is super chill but has enough electronic kick to make it a party track, plus it's got Ellie Goulding, Waka Flocka, and Wale.

Shenai - Blame (Yves LaRock Edit)
Usually in an electro song you can identify the "main riff" of the thing, in this jam there is no way.  This jam is constantly changing the rhythm of the lead and they all are funky and ragetastic.  If you like electro-house music grab this one.

Mustard Pimp - Scissors
Mustard Pimp is great hard-electro, they know how to do it.  This track is hard as hell and will bring the house down through big speakers.  I already posted another jam of Mustard Pimp's doing, "Paper" on here (on the first post ever as a matter of fact); both songs are off their "Rocks/Paper/Scissors" EP (you can guess what the third jam is called).

"Zeds Dead Baby"

2 weeks left over here in the UK and my arsenal of dubstep tunes continues to stockpile.  Not a ton of new music over the past few days so I felt I would do a little special on one of my favorite current artists.  Borrowing their name from a classic line in "Pulp Fiction", Zeds Dead is made of 2 bros that hail from Ontario, Canada.  Like another famous Canadian in the electronic music industry (his name rhymes with Bedhau5), these guys took their genre and tweaked it to set themselves apart while at the same time innovating the genre as a whole.  Their tunes are a lot more melodic than most dubstep and employ a lot more vocal samples throughout their songs (some even have lyrics!).  Anyways, they have blown up over the past year and here I have some of their best jams (in my opinion) for you with a brief reasoning of why each one is so dank, enjoy and if you know any more good Zeds Dead tunes, tell me!  Send me an email or comment on this post.

P.S. DON'T FORGET TO VOTE ON THE POLL to the right, I will do a super mega ultra amazing lengthy post with a dickload of tunes for the winner when the voting period is over.

Zeds Dead - White Satin
First Zeds Dead song I heard, had me hooked right away.  Killer vocal sample and very melodic, upbeat tune.  If there is ever such thing as a "feel-good" dubstep song, this is it.

Zeds Dead - Dark Side Dub
I have been waiting for a song to use some Star Wars samples, and Zeds Dead executed it to perfection in this jam.  THE POWAAAA!

Dragonette - Volcano (Zeds Dead Remix)
The great female vocals of Dragonette meet the wub-your-face-off beats of Zeds Dead.  Match made in heaven.  There's even a little bit of the 4 to the floor trademark house music drum beat in there.

Zeds Dead - Out for Blood (ft. Omar Linx)
That's right, this song actually has verses in it (and damn good ones too!), which makes this song not only wubtastic and bangin' but catchy as shit and something you can actually sing along with.  I'm telling you this is the future of hip hop music, every artist out there is going to want to rap over dubstep beats in the near future.  You just watch...

November Rewind Playlist

Alright, I'm trying to branch out and do some experimenting with some new stuff for the blog.  Here we've got something I want to start doing regularly, a monthly rewind playlist.  This bad boy has 20 of the best tracks from the last month (most if not all available for free download on the blog).  Everything from face melters to house bangers to chill rap to Johnny Cash (that song is bomb).  If you hear something you like, just click on the artist's name in the cloud on the right hand side of the blog and it should be easy to find the link for the song from there.  Enjoy, and let me know if you would have any additions or subtractions from the playlist.

Dutched Out

Amsterdam is quite the city, I have to say.  Spent a beautiful weekend enjoying the various luxuries that the city has to offer.  Pretty burnt out after a day of traveling today (I woke up in Amsterdam at 7 and was in London by 10:30), but heres some sweet new house and dubstep.  I heard some money Dutch House while I was over there.  For those who aren't aware...Afrojack is probably the biggest name in Dutch House and is really bringing the subgenre to the general "House" populus.  The beats rely on heavy bass drums and really high pitched synth riffs that sound almost like sirens.  Gets the job done for me, here are the tunes.  Some good dubstep in there too for good measure.

Deviance - Fellatio (Alvaro Remix)
Like I said, heavy track with really high pitched main electronic riffs in there.  Pretty good, funny vocal sample too, always good to see.

Gianni Marino - Move & Break (Original Mix)
I bet there are a lot of people out there who have heard this song without realizing they were hearing it.  Has been remixed by a lot of people but the original is legendary.  Another classic Dutch jam.

TV Rock - Son of 91 (Afrojack 2010 Remix)
Afrojack is the king of the Dutch House scene, so he had to make an appearance.  The original jam lends some great vocals and a great piano riff, but Afrojack sends it into overdrive with some serious drops.  One of the first Afrojack songs I ever heard.

Statelapse - Hurt You (ft. KP)
Dubstep jam right here, 2 dudes "Statelapse" from Northern UK.  Really, really heavy shit.  Vocals on this track are unreal, these guys throw in so much crazy, distorted shit on all their songs, I love it.  Check out their other stuff too, "Trash Talk" is another great song of theirs.

See You Bitches Next Week

Alright, I'm leaving tomorrow morning for a weekend in London to see Bassnectar and Rusko at Club Fabric in the heart of merry Londontown, and I am fucking jacked up for it to say the least.  Should be an epic weekend with the aid of some prime substances.  So here's my farewell post for the weekend showcasing the two artists I will be seeing live.  Look for videos on the Ready2Rage facebook page upon my return.  Peace.

Bassnectar - Boombox (Bassnectar and ill.gates Remix)
Original is great, but this shits better.  Whoever ill.gates is he brings the fire to every collaboration with Bassnectar.

Bassnectar - Here We Go
Favorite song off my favorite Bassnectar album (Timestretch, I would say Wildstyle Method but its only an EP technically).  This song bumps real hard and its going to burn the house down live.

Rusko - Cockney Thug
Pretty much the essential Rusko track.  Great Alan Ford voice sample (Brick Top from Snatch, one of the greatest movie villains ever).  Ready to get my wubwubwub on to this one.

Wild Style

NEW BASSNECTAR JAM!!! This one is called Wildstyle Method and I got it available for free download below.  Sick song, really gets the WOMPWOMPWOMP in there around a minute in.  The vocal samples Bassnectar uses always make for great party tunes as well, be sure to throw this one on at your next banger.  Bassnectar was the first dubstep (if that's what you wanna call it) artist I ever listened to, guy is the bomb and he's been in the game for a while.  His original shit is awesome check out the Cozza Frenzy EP he's got, definitely his best album.  Remixes are tight as well, I have included his remix of Sleigh Bells - Run the Heart on this post for your listening pleasure.  Great, fresh remix you can bump your head to.  Download both tracks, you'll be glad you did.

Bassnectar - Wildstyle Method
Hot new Bassnectar track, you'll be ready to rage with this one.

Sleigh Bells - Run the Heart (Bassnectar Remix)
Sick remix of a sick song, Bassnectar has done it again.
